UNIT 2 . RENAISSANCE

From neumes to notation
Pavane
The Renaissance
- Renaisance music- Compositive techniques. Polyphony and imitaitve counterpoint.

- Sacred vocal music: the motet and the mass

This is an exampleof sacred vocal music. There are three techniques: monody, poplyphony and imitative counterpoint.

VERY IMPORTANT. UNIT 2.THE RENAISSANCE

-Secular vocal music: There is an international style in sacred musica versus particular secular style. As an example : in Spain villancico, in France chanson and madrigal in Italy

Villancico based on two alternating parts called refrain and copla. They are usually about love , adventure...

Chanson: Secular vocal song in French, this one is about love.

Madrigal: Poetic texts in Italian mostly on the theme of lovc.

Instrumental music: Instrumets were used to accompany songs and dances. Renaissance dances were usually written in pairs. Instruments were developped by some advances in instrumental making, practical booksthanks to the printing press and innovative notation systems (tablature).

Instruments were grouped by families ( in order to produce homogeneous sound  ie recorder family) or depending on how strong or intense their sound ( haut or very loud instruments / bas: quiet instruments)

Here you are, the Pavane we´ve playing the last music lesson, so any volunteer ?
